ANGELA NYIRI

EQUILIBRIUM -in ZsombrakArt Gallery

Febr 23th - April 22rd 2009

You graduated with a diploma in computer film graphics. Do you create you works according to these rules, or are you drawn traditional painting, and line drawing?
I use various techniques, usually the theme requests its tools.

Can you shortly describe the techniques that you use?
I take pictures and merge them on a computer. After printed I often draw over.

Where do you live and work?
In Budapest, at the moment.

What works do you show us and which stay at home?
The first eight in the series are fresh ones, the second part is a selection from my diploma works. I often use shiny materials which is hard to present on a photo reproduction so these stay at home now.

What inspiration do you get when choosing a subject? Is it important to have calm around you? Or just the opposite?
I am usually gathering inspiration from anything possible. Stories, writings, situations.

What are you working on now?
The most interest I find in reinterpretation of articles for personal use.

Do you think itís important to have artistic groups, where people talk about art?
Creating forums where people can communicate is very important. However it\'s possible that the lack of these surfaces suggest lack of interest.

Going by your own experience, do these groups stick together in Hungary?
I have poor view over these groups, but I suppose is variating.

Is having exhibitions at famous galleries and taking part in biennials important to you?
I wouldn\'t call it the object I propose to myself, but I would happily do it.

As an artist, do you feel the effects of the recession?
I find it very interesting as a phenomenon but I also hope that there is a chance for evolutionary changes.

Going by your own experience, do Hungarians spend money on art?
Based on my experience the Hungarians are eager to receive art, but unfortunately the artwork acquisition is at the bottom of the expence-list.

Do you have any country where youíd like to be an artist, because you feel that art is taken seriously there?
I have no specific example but I think there are many countries where the art creation and valuation is important. I suppose this is the consequence of the actual economical situation and tradition.

If you close your eyes and I say: Hungary, country of Culture, what comes to mind?
Maybe one day.

Thank you for your time.

Thank you for the opportunity.
